Which stone is best for kitchen countertops?

Granite and quartz are the usual choices. Granite is very hard and heat resistant. Quartz surfaces are non-porous and need little maintenance. Marble can be used too, but it marks more easily and suits lower-wear areas.

Which stone is best for outdoor paving?

Sandstone and granite. Sandstone has a naturally textured surface and warm colour. Granite is the harder option for heavy traffic.
